A nice photo. Mom, daughter and their dog.
No. This is a Mom, her daughter, and one of our many RESCUES!
Just down the road from me, a family of four sat around a small campfire sharing quality family time. It was late on a Friday evening, the road was dark. The teenaged son, Dakota, sees a shadow on the street. The family looks closer, realizing it is a dog. Lonely, hungry, and abandoned.
My phone rings, Shelia fills me in. She and her daughter, Jaylan, flashlight in hand, meet me up the road. They had lost the dog just past a fence, so we continue our search. Finally, on a gravel road, hiding behind the brush, we see him. He gingerly steps out to us, as we coo sweet words of reassurance to him. I am able to slip the lead around his neck, and we all walk back to my place.

After some fresh cool water, and good food, the dog relaxes.
He's sick.
Bleeding, afraid, abandoned, on a dark country road.
I have been "Live Trapping", abandoned and sick animals for over 12 years. I have watched, as a van slows near my driveway - a child jumps out of the side door with a plate of food, an excited dog on his heels. As the dog begins to eat, the van drives off - the dog tries to follow and is hit by another car. Ten minutes earlier, this was "someone's" pet.
A happy little dog, riding along in the van. A suprise treat of food is layed before him!
"Someone's" pet.
A small puppy once, with a mother who nursed the life into him, as he grew big and strong.
"Someone", adopted him.
Pledging devotion, dedication, eternal love, care, comfort.
Luckily, for the fellow in the photo above, he might have a chance.
A chance to heal, and a chance to be loved.
Before adopting your pet, really give this some thought.
This is a LIFE that you are committing to.
A heartbeat.
A devoted and dedicated friend, who loves unconditionally.
Are you ready to love unconditionally in return?
